Ninety
days, twenty countries, once in a lifetime adventure! What if you could
leave the United States late one night with your bags packed, a camera
around your neck and a lot of extra film perhaps to visit Fiji for a
few days to bask in the pacific sun and sip some tropical juice from
a coconut shell before heading on into the land down under for an adventurous
journey through the Australian Outback only to find that you could really
go for some Satay chicken cooked only the way that the Indonesia street
vendors can so you fly to Bali to do just that and you figure while
your there it would be nice to watch the sunrise from the top of a volcano
and as the great yellow star rises to greet the land somebody on your
left suggests that China is lovely this time of year so a flight out
of Jakarta on the island of Java gets you into the newly independent
city of Bejing where you take in the sights before catching a ride on
by the forbidden city where you make a brief stop before taking those
last few steps to the top of the Great Wall deciding that a 2000 mile
plus stroll along this would be too time consuming so from there it's
back on a plane to go do a little shopping at the floating markets in
the city of Bangkok before an overnight train into the northern province
of Chaing Mai for some elephant riding , and rafting through the realm
of Thailand's Hill Tribe People only to find yourself a few days later
lying flat on a grass mat covered with herbal oils being introduced
to authentic Thai Massage by a strong old woman but as you lie there
it occurs to you that you have another date with a porter in the Himalayas
so it's north to Kathmandu for a flight around a little old mountain
called Everest which Peaks your interest so you spend some time wandering
from village to village which proves to be quite enjoyable but you need
curry and saffron and a lot of it so after a brief stop in the mountain
town of Pokhara a bumpy little bus ride prepares you for the upside
down turned around country of India whose sacred river Ganges (upon
which you are enjoying a sunrise boat ride) calls to you saying it might
be nicer to the east where the Taj Mahal lies on the banks of the Yamuna
river which flows under the rails that will lead you to Delhi where
you catch that long awaited flight to join up with that Masai Mara Safari
that needs you to do your special 'keep the Kenyan lions from eating
us' call so that everyone can make it out of AFRICA alive and on to
Egypt to let sand from the base of the Great Pyramids sift through your
hands which for some reason gives you a craving for humus so across
the Sinai Desert it is to Israel's old city of Jerusalem only to find
out, per the man at the Wailing Wall, that they're out so a quick dip
in the Dead and Red Sea will have to suffice knowing that the folks
in Greece are pretty good with ingredients so a flight in that general
direction allows you to walk along paths that the first Olympians may
have walked along on their way to Italy for some spaghetti which seems
like a good idea so you go knowing that after you eat you'll need a
cold drink in Germany to wash it down which might make you feel like
yodeling in Switzerland or eating a nice pastry in France for dessert
like all the kings in the castles of England use to eat before heading
to Stone Henge to play croquet which you think should be one of your
last stops before flying on down to Brazil to feel the mist of the Iguasu
Falls upon your face which in a few days will be dried up by the sun rising over Machu Pichu and lighting your way down the Inca Trail which
may have, at some time in history, led you ( after many days journey,
now only a short flight ) to the Volcano Arenal that you'll see erupt
into the Costa Rican night sky which may create enough light for you
to read your watch by noticing that its time to return to face a place
that seems a little foreign now but a place of comfort with friends
and family who will want to know everything you did on your trip around
the world.
